Controversial Waimate District councillor Sandy Mulqueen has failed in her bid to get council support for her push for the legalisation of cannabis.
In a submission to the council's long-term plan, she had proposed the council back her We Desire Change lobby group, which was launched last weekend to push for decriminalisation of the drug.
However, a public submission hearing on Tuesday failed to consider the submission.
Waimate Mayor John Coles said the submission had not been accepted following a council vote.
The decision had been made because of negative feedback from the Waimate community, Mr Cole said.
"It didn't have support and it was not a local government issue."
