A police spokeswoman said emergency services were called to an area near the Ohau "C" Canal and Lake Benmore, off Falston Rd, at about 8.40 this morning.
A person was pulled unresponsive from the water and given CPR but died at the scene, the spokeswoman said.
The death will be referred to the coroner.
