Arts, education, sports grants on offer

Opportunities in education, sports and the arts are available with the Clutha District Council offering money and grants for all three pursuits.

The council took the step this week of extensively promoting and publicising three separate funding schemes, in a bid to get ratepayers and residents aware of them and of how they can help.

The Tuapeka county bursary is available to young people in the former Tuapeka County area, including the Roxburgh, Lawrence and Tapanui townships. It helps cover some of their tertiary education costs. A minimum bursary of $1000 is available and paid out at the end of January. Applications close on November 28.

The Sport and Recreation New Zealand rural travel fund helps sports clubs and teams with their travel costs to attend local sporting competitions and is targeted at people aged between five and 19 years. Applications close on November 14.

Council communications co-ordinator Jamie Shaw said arts groups could also benefit, with the Creative Communities New Zealand funding scheme operating its second funding round at the moment.

Designed to increase access and participation in the arts, the fund allocated more than 43300 in the last round. Applications for the present round close on November 28.
