Organisers hope the fourth annual Johnstone Electrical Bridge to Beach event will be bigger and better than last year.
The event, to be held tomorrow, starts in Balclutha and finishes in Kaka Point. It includes several different races - a 21km half-marathon run, 8.5km recreational walk, and 21.1km and 35km biking events.
Organiser Lisa Lyall said the Kaka Point Surf Life Saving Club aimed to make the fourth Bridge to Beach the biggest event in Balclutha. Last year, it attracted 100 entries, and Mrs Lyall hoped 150 would take part tomorrow.
Money raised from the event would go towards new boards and uniforms for the surf club's junior members.
''We have a strong juniors group for next season which we are very excited with and want to help support.''
Scottish woman Cathy MacDonald plans to take part in the 21km half-marathon while she is touring New Zealand with her husband. The couple arrived in the country last month.
On April 21, Mrs MacDonald will be running her first marathon in London and she said she needed to train while she was on holiday.
''I scanned Google for races and events in New Zealand and the Bridge to Beach event jumped out at me - it looked inviting and friendly as well as being well organised.
''I love meeting new folk and I love fitness so this event is perfect for taking away a good few memories and contributing to a good cause as well as being a brilliant way to finish our New Zealand experience,'' Mrs MacDonald said.
Participants must be over 15 to run the half-marathon. The starting point for the half-marathon is outside the Clutha Rugby Club rooms and the 8.5km starts near Paretai Hall. Both events finish at the Kaka Point Surf Life Saving Club.
The recreational walk and family cycle section starts at the Paretai Hall and will also end in Kaka Point.
Support teams were encouraged to set up tents at the beach and relax after the event, Mrs Lyall said.
Some transport back to the rugby clubrooms will be available.
Entries are welcome on the day, with registrations at 9.30am.
