
Cloudy skies but warm winds created a pleasant atmosphere for the event, which attracted increased entries in cattle, horses and jumping classes, while the popular Calf Club - designed for children to show off their pets - attracted entries from as far away as Inch Clutha and Kaka Point.
The emphasis was on family fun, with plenty of activities for children, who almost outnumbered adults at the gathering at the Tapanui Racecourse.
Show secretary Gay Stringer said turning the focus of the show towards younger people appeared to be working well, with more families attending and young children enjoying the experience of actively taking part in the event.
Trade displays, children's rides and marquees featuring everything from clothing and food to garden ornaments and art were spread around the arena.
A drawcard for children, Mr BirdBrain the Juggler, entertained at two shows.
The grand parade was another popular event, bringing people of all ages into the main grandstand.
