Fire communications shift manager Andrew Norris said three appliances from the Balclutha and Kaitangata volunteer brigades were sent to the address about 9.20am, in response to a bedroom fire.
Mr Norris said it was believed the fire in the bedding was started by a cigarette. The Fire Service spent 50 minutes extinguishing the fire and tidying up the scene.
He said an occupant from the house was taken to the nearby health centre for observation. St John communications adviser Gerard Campbell confirmed a female was taken from the scene with moderate injuries.
