The "world’s most boring livestream" started beaming from Clutha farmer Craig Whiteside’s favourite paddock at 5am today, offering a 24/7 view of oats growing from germination to harvest in March.

It is a collaboration between Mr Whiteside, a longtime supplier to Harraways Oats, and Boring Oat Milk founder Morgan Maw, who uses Mr Whiteside’s oats in her products.

"There’s so much obsession with the grand and otherworldly fast-paced launches that chase spectacle," Mrs Maw said.

"But some things are better for being peaceful, predictable and boring, and it could do viewers good to experience true calm in the form of thousands of gently waving oats ...

"So while the world looks to Mars, we’re looking to the South Island and all oats give us."

"This is a deliberate homage to the slow and the mundane and encourages people to sit back, rebuild their attention span and literally watch the oats grow," a spokesperson said in a release.

Mr Whiteside admitted global web tech was new to him.

"We’ve been growing oats here for decades and find it extremely exciting but I didn’t really know what this livestream thing was," Mr Whiteside said.

"We’ve already got a good one up the road. I caught a huge trout there last summer."

In an era of "interesting times", Mr Whiteside and Mrs Maw invite viewers to a nice, worry-free "boring time", where the most action will be occasional, careful, weed control and the final cut.

"That sounds like a pretty darn good evening of viewing," Mr Whiteside said.

So turn off your phone, close the curtains, tune into boringmilk.com and prepare to be slowly, surely, completely underwhelmed.
