The Balclutha Rotary Book Sale is joining forces with the Clutha Boot Market and Balclutha Venturer Scouts for the first time this year, in a combined community effort for the local food hub.
The sale runs at TPŌMA from tomorrow until Sunday, it combines thousands of pre-loved books with the boot sale’s blend of produce, artisan goods and gifts.
Balclutha Rotary secretary Christine Cutler said the addition of the local scouts as volunteer helpers would also provide young people with hands-on experience of community service, teamwork, and leadership.
The sale would also double as an opportunity to contribute to the Clutha Food Hub’s Every Can Counts campaign, in line with Rotary’s annual Cans for a Cause drive.
Clutha Boot Market organiser Brodie Dodds said the book sale was a great fit for the market, which already supported the food hub.
"During our spring and summer markets, we’ve encouraged stallholders to donate to the food hub in lieu of a stall fee, so this is a great extension of something we already back."
Rotary and its partners encouraged book and market lovers to bring along a can or two to drop in special campaign drop boxes this weekend.
Mrs Cutler said proceeds from the book sale and market were reinvested into local initiatives, including youth development, environmental projects, and emergency aid.
"This joint venture is a practical demonstration of Rotary’s motto, ‘Service Above Self’, showcasing how partnerships can make a tangible difference at the grassroots level."
