Expressions of interest over health facility plans

West Otago Health Ltd has fielded several expressions of interest from people and companies wanting to project manage its plans for a new health facility, but is yet to make an appointment.

The company recently confirmed it has signed a contract with the Otago District Health Board to provide a range of health services to be based in a new building to be constructed on the site of the former Tapanui Hospital.

Chairman Brian Brennsell was reluctant to confirm how many applications had been received for the role.

It has not formally advertised the role but has ‘‘put out feelers'' around the community and beyond.

The group will meet in the next 10 days and Mr Brennsell hoped an announcement would be made soon after that.

Once a project manager was in place, the real work of developing a feasibility study and looking at the viability of the new proposed health centre would begin, he said.

Mr Brennsell was ‘‘satisfied'' with the recent recom mendations to come out of an extraordinary meeting of the West Otago Community Board

While that meeting did not specifically approve any money, recommendations wil be made at tomorrow's ful council meeting to confirm the idea may be raised in the coming few months.

There was talk at the meet ing of the council being asked to contribute $1 million but Mr Brennsell said actual figures would not be known until ful studies were done.
