Fire ban over

The restricted fire season which has been enforced throughout the Clutha district for the past five months was officially revoked yesterday.

The Clutha District Council said it was reverting to an open fire season as of midnight yesterday. Permits are only needed for burns within 1km of Ernslaw One forests, Department of Conservation land and within 500m of Wenita and City Forests plantations.

Principal Rural Fire Officer Selwyn Vigers said residents should still be vigilant when lighting fires.
