"It's nice to be in a position to help," Kirsty Elers said.
The Kaitangata public house, that has been on the riverside site for about 50 years, was renamed The Crescent when Mrs McDonald took over as owner, manager, chef and barkeep eight years ago.
"It is a bit like being the living room of the community and having everybody dropping in whenever they feel like company," she said.
"We are planning on closing for Christmas so maybe we’ll share the roast then."
