Only one councillor will return for another term in the Balclutha ward of the Clutha District Council.

Preliminary results indicated Cr Ken Payne was re-elected to the council and will be joined by newcomers Carol Sutherland, Alison Ludemann and Rachel Jenkinson.

Joanne Thomson was not re-elected into her role as councillor.

Cr Geoff Blackmore was also re-elected in the Lawrence-Tuapeka ward after he was challenged by Paul Tansley.

However, Mr Tansley did not quite miss out as he was elected into the Lawrence-Tuapeka Community board.

Returning to the board will be Garry McCorkindale and Geoff Davidson, while Mel Foster, Quentin Currall and Elizabeth Ritchie will replace former members Rochelle Langley, Rowena Paterson, Liz Forbes and Malcolm MacLeod.

Steve Morris, Neville Gardner and Blair Cross were elected on to the Balclutha ward of the Clutha Licensing Trust while Trevor McIntosh was elected in the Owaka ward.

Hamish Anderson, former Clutha District councillor, was elected on to the Clutha Health Incorporated board.

He will be joined by Mervyn Jones, Kate Anderson, Paul Richardson and Grant Driver.

The preliminary results were based on 95 percent of returned voting papers.

There was no mayoral race in the Clutha District as Mayor Bryan Cadogan was unopposed in his bid.
