Police in Balclutha are urging residents to be on alert for a prowler who has been sneaking around properties in the central part of town lately.
Constable Graeme Ferguson said there had been reports from Ryrie St residents about 10.30pm last Monday.
They had seen someone walking around yards.
Police suspect this person might also be responsible for the attempted burglary of a Stewart St garage the same night.
Const Ferguson urged people to keep a watch on their properties after dark and report any suspicious activity or people.
Meanwhile, several young Kaitangata people are being referred to the police youth aid section after being caught throwing stones on roofs of houses after dark.
Const Ferguson said residents had been reporting incidents in recent weeks but on Tuesday night, some of the stones broke windows.
A group of youths, aged between 14 and 16, had been spoken to, he said.
