Rural women, already noted for making strong contributions to community groups, will next month be given an opportunity to learn some new skills.
The South Otago branch of Rural Women New Zealand is running a one-day seminar called "Operating Confidently in the Public World" to help rural women more easily take on committee roles in community groups.
Facilitator Ruth Chapman, of Dunedin, who has worked on many non-profit elected boards, will stage the event at the Creative Arts Centre in Balclutha on July 29, from 9.45am to 3pm.
South Otago group president Hilary McNab said even joining a committee in an organisation could be daunting, especially if asked to take on a formal role in a situation where a person had no experience.
The seminar offered a chance to "learn how to identify your strengths and put them to good use, improve your communication skills and run an effective meeting".
Limited places are available for the seminar, which costs $15 (including lunch and refreshments).
To register, people can contact Mrs McNab on (03) 415 8296 or Lorraine Pringle on (03) 418 3711.
