Trust files for liquidation of hotel

A Gore-based licensing trust, which has been battling to get money owed to it by the Beaumont Hotel, has made formal moves to have the establishment placed into liquidation.

The Mataura Licensing Trust has filed a High Court application to put the company trading as Beaumont Hotel 2008 Ltd into liquidation.

The court will hear the application on October 12. If successful, the move could mean the hotel closes.

The hotel is owned by Contact Energy and leased back to managers. Contact is investigating four hydro-electric dam options along the Clutha River. One would flood Beaumont, including the hotel.

Trust general manager John Wyeth said, when contacted yesterday, the trust had supplied alcohol to the hotel for the past three or four years.

It had enjoyed a friendly relationship with the hotel's previous management, which ended its involvement last year.

Mr Wyeth declined to reveal how much the trust was owed and attempts to contact hotel management were unsuccessful.
