A happy group of dancers returned to Gore after a successful competition in Nelson.
Students from Rachel's Studio of Dance competed in the Dancesport Nelson Easter Championship and Festival 2008.
Gore dancer Georgina Waikato-Ruru danced with her son Aaron (10), gaining one first place and two seconds.
Aaron then paired up with Mikayla Ferguson (7). The couple received one third placing and reached the finals in the majority of their events, including in grades higher than their own.
Dance teacher Rachel Ferguson said she was thrilled with Mikayla and Aaron's performance.
‘‘They danced better than they ever have,'' Mrs Ferguson said.
‘‘They have a great wee friendship which is working well.''
Mikayla was also crowned Princess of the Ballroom ahead of the 24 other girls who vied for the title. The competition is judged on grooming, personality, enthusiasm and presentation.
