Highway soiled after truck crash

The driver of a truck and trailer unit which crashed near Winton has escaped injury, despite spilling a load of soil all over the highway.

The accident happened on State Highway 96 - the Winton Hedgehope Highway - about 6pm, a police spokeswoman said.

The truck's trailer had rolled, spilling its load of top soil on to the road and blocking one lane.

There were no reported injuries.

NZ Transport Agency said the road was down to one lane and under stop/go traffic management.
