Meth, guns and synthetics seized in Southern gang raids

Eleven people were arrested over the past 10 days in raids against organised crime carried out by in Invercargill, Gore and Queenstown.

Acting Detective Sergeant Matt Wyatt of the Invercargill CIB said the raids, which targeted organised criminal networks and serious offending, also netted six firearms, a large amount of ammunition, methamphetamine, cannabis and synthetic drugs were seized, along with cash and stolen property.

“These warrants have been part of our continued efforts to reduce crime and harm in our communities.”

One search warrant was executed in Queenstown, two in Gore and five in Invercargill.

They are expected to appear in the court in the Invercargill, Gore and Queenstown District Courts in the coming days.

Acting Detective Sergeant Wyatt said they face charges relating to firearms, Class A and B drugs, and dishonesty.

“It’s pleasing to have been able to make a dent in local organised crime groups and put offenders before the courts. This all helps contribute to our communities being safe and feeling safe.”

He urged people in the community to continue reporting any suspicious activity to police. 

Ten of those arrested are men – aged 50, 54, 38, 60, 30, 21, 24, 29, 31 and a 44-year-old.

The eleventh person is a 30-year-old female.

Det Sgt Watt said the arrests and seizures have helped disrupt, deter and dismantle organised criminal networks in the Southern District.

"This all helps contribute to our communities being safe and feeling safe."
