Police are searching for a man who evaded police in Invercargill this afternoon.

A police spokeswoman said they were called to the scene near Tweed St and Venus St just after 3pm after a person on a motorcycle failed to stop for police.

The motorcyclist was pursued by police for his manner of driving and the motorcycle was flagged as a vehicle of interest for police.

Following a "very brief" pursuit, the person stopped and abandoned the motorcycle.
