Police have released the names of an infant and a toddler who died in separate incidents in Southland this week.
Honour Shamrock Ashworth (3 months) died after sustaining serious injuries at a Riverton address on Monday evening.
He was first taken to Southland Hospital on Monday night, then died at Starship in Auckland early yesterday.
A police investigation will determine whether there is any criminal culpability in relation to the death.
Irene Nath (2) drowned on a central Southland farm on Tuesday evening.
She was found in a duck pond on the farm at Otapiri, near Winton, about 8.40pm. Police and volunteer firefighters began CPR but were unable to revive her.
