No further news on fate of 'K-Cee' crew: police

No new information on the fate of missing skipper Bruce Gordon (42) and crew member Darren Allen (37), or what happened to their crayfishing boat, K-Cee, came to light yesterday, police in Te Anau said last night.

Search and rescue personnel on the fourth day of their operation yesterday continued to evaluate the latest data supplied by the Rescue Co-ordination Centre on tidal patterns, current movements and debris already located, to identify potential actions or directions for any future searches.

The Te Anau skipper and his Wairio crewman on board K-Cee have not been heard from since Monday, at 8.15am.

Wreckage of the half-submerged hull was found floating off Doubtful Sound on Tuesday.

Wooden floorboards from K-Cee's dinghy, the bladder from its liferaft and its unactivated emergency locator beacon were found on Wednesday.

Southland area commander Inspector Lane Todd told the Otago Daily Times yesterday a small team carried out a monitoring role and police carried out further investigations on behalf of the coroner.

Asked what happened to the wreckage of the boat and what was planned for the debris, Insp Todd said: "These matters have now been handed over to the insurance assessor."

Asked if there was a point when the men were deemed to be dead, Insp Todd said it was a matter for the coroner.
