A man was taken to hospital with minor injuries after a fertiliser truck crashed on Knapdale Rd near Gore this afternoon.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said evacuations in the Knapdale area were prompted by the material on the back of the truck; however, the evacuation order was pulled after it was established there was no safety issue and the incident was now being treated solely as a crash.

Police arrived just before 3pm, and blocked Whiterig Rd and McKinnon Rd, near the site of the crash.

The truck was off the road and on its wheels, but near water, a police spokeswoman said.

A St John spokesman said the man was taken to Gore Hospital with minor injuries.

It was not known how many people had been affected by the evacuations.
