He was Hamish Steven Attenborough (21), of Milford Sound.
Mr Attenborough worked for Ultimate Hikes and was reported missing shortly after midnight on Monday, March 28 after he did not return from the hike to Devil’s Armchair, near the northern end of the Milford Track.
He was found dead near Giant Gate Falls on Wednesday, March 30 and his body recovered the following day.
He was an experienced tramper and carried a personal locator beacon and a two-way radio.
Police said they had completed enquiries on behalf of the coroner, who will release their findings in due course.
