Two escape serious injury after car rolls in Southland

At least two occupants of a car escaped with minor injuries when the vehicle rolled down a bank at Waikawa Valley, Southland, yesterday evening.

The crash occurred at the intersection of Waikawa Valley Rd and the Niagara-Tokanui Highway, 15kms east of Tokanui, about 5.20pm on Saturday, a Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said.

No-one had to be extricated from the car, assessment and treatment were provided by St John Ambulance staff at the scene and no-one needed to be transported to hospital, emergency services said.

A police spokeswoman said that police were still looking in to the accident.

No further details were immediately available about the size of the bank or the highway conditions.
