Two people suffered minor injuries when a boat carrying 39 tourists crashed into a rock during a seal-watching cruise in Milford Sound yesterday.

Radio New Zealand reported the passenger vessel, operated by Real Journeys, hit the rock about noon.

A company spokesperson said the injured people were treated by staff on board and checked by a St John medic when they returned to shore.

The boat, which appeared to have superficial damage, had been taken out of service for a full inspection.

An internal investigation was under way, and Maritime New Zealand had been notified.
