Witnesses sought to Invercargill assault

A man walking along an Invercargill street was attacked by another man in a passing van early on Sunday morning, police say.

The victim was at the Tweed Street/Elles Road intersection about 12.40am on Sunday morning when a white van, possibly a Toyota with tinted windows, pulled over, Senior Sergeant Maggie Windle said.

A man then got out of the van and assaulted the victim.

The victim received moderate facial injuries and was taken to Southland Hospital, Ms Windle said.

Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the attack.

The man who got out of the van was described as Caucasian and wearing a white t-shirt. It was unknown if there was anyone else in the van.
