The first competitive football game on the new pitch at the Wanaka Recreation Centre was contested yesterday between Wanaka Youth and Lakes United.

The pitches were opened to the public by the Queenstown Lakes District Council last week and Wanaka Youth coach Yohann Bourdin said a storage facility and floodlights would follow.

Wanaka Youth suffered a heavy 9-0 loss, leaving it joint bottom in Division 1 of the Central Otago Football League.

Pictured pre-game are Wanaka Youth players (back, from left) Hunter Norton (15), Rory Hannon (18), and Jake Nicholson (17), (front, left) Flynn Brown (16), and Niklas Bareis (16).
