One person has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a vehicle crashed into a wall near Wanaka this morning.

The road has reopened after the crash blocked State Highway 6 closing the highway from Mt Barker Rd to Morris Rd.

A reporter at the scene said it was believed that one person was trapped.

A police spokeswoman said they were notified of the crash about 6.40am and one person was injured.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokeswoman said they assisted with extricating a person from the vehicle.

The vehicle had crashed into a wall and was the only one involved in the incident, she said.

A helicopter had also been called to the scene, she said.

St John said in a media alert one person was seriously injured and had been taken to Dunedin Hospital.
