The workshops were arranged by the Queenstown Airport Authority, which leases Wanaka Airport from the Queenstown Lakes District Council.
Airport communications adviser Naomi Lindsay said those participating came up with four themes when asked what a successful airport might look like in 2045.
It was seen to be a "a vibrant, innovative aero and business hub with diverse user types and facilities and high wage employment", she said.
As well, there would be proactive, well-planned and co-ordinated partnerships with local and central government to ensure infrastructure and transport connectivity were kept up.
The "general aviation" community would be protected and enhanced, and recreational flying would be maintained and nurtured in "harmony with scheduled services".
And, the airport would be "a world-class example of airport development" that was sustainable, architecturally-designed, carbon-neutral, innovative and technologically advanced.
Ms Lindsay said members of the public had until July 8 to make their thoughts known to the corporation.
