This will be the third year the competition has run, with local sports teams submitting entries on why they think their team is deserving of the party.
It includes a meet-and-greet session with the Sharks and a catered party at the pool.
Invercargill City Council manager aquatic services Stephen Cook said the competition has continued to grow in popularity and more than 50 submissions were received last year.
“This has quickly become one of our favourite community initiatives.”
He had received feedback from the teams and their families and said “the pride and excitement from past winners show just how special this experience is”.
Previous winners included Queens Park AFC Jets basketball team and Star Rugby Club year five team, which “highlights the wide range of sports represented in the entries”.
“Southlanders love sport. This competition is a great way for Splash Palace to nurture that passion and encourage our young athletes to stay active and engaged in their chosen sport.”
He said they were looking forward to “hearing what makes each team unique and recognising the effort they put into training and playing week after week”.
There was a lot of excitement to have high-performance athletes involved for another year.
“Many of our top athletes including players from the Sharks, Steel and Stags use our pool as a part of their regular training.”
He was grateful that players from the Sharks were willing to to participate in this competition again.
“[Southland Sharks] are giving up their time to visit Splash Palace in a different capacity, as ambassadors and champions for grassroots sport in Southland.”
Teams that want to enter need to include contact details and an explanation on why they deserve to win.
Entries are open until Sunday June 7th and can be submitted in person at Splash Palace, via Facebook or the Splash Palace website.
