One of New Zealand’s most prominent comedians says he’s excited to bring his sharp eye for observational humour to Gore, calling it well overdue.

Tom Sainsbury will bring "Comedy in the Country" to Tussock Country — New Zealand’s Country Music Festival this Sunday at the Pioneer Rugby Club.

Audiences can get ready for a belly full of laughs from 5pm onwards as the prolific comedian, character actor and film-maker pays it back to an audience he has found are more than happy to travel to see him.

"I’ve done Invercargill before, and every time I come down, people travel from Gore. I’ve done Dunedin as well, they travelled from Gore.

"I’m like, it’s time for me to do a show in Gore. I’m actually kind of thrilled. It’s great to be a part of Tussock Country and be in the vibe, but it’s also great to get down, find out what Gore’s like and what the audiences are like," he said.

Sainsbury said he had nothing but positive reviews of the people of Gore he had met on his travels, and had been doing a little research, combing the community boards to get a lay of the land.

Fresh from a two-month stay in Australia, Sainsbury said he had been pondering on the commonalities and the comorbidities of New Zealanders, what ticks underneath the surface.

For him, a show was a chance to experience a new side of life he might not have seen before, as his true passion was observing and meeting people, which he would be more than exercising during his stay in Gore.

A few tourist hotspots had already been ticked off, as Sainsbury said a quick stop at the Eastern Southland Gallery was "incredible" in a past trip, and he was ready to meet the locals and put on a phenomenal show.

From fun characters, humorous observations, and stories past and present, Sainsbury will bring everything audiences from all over New Zealand have raved about to Tussock Country.
