Spectacular ‘Dune’ finale worth the wait

Dune: Part Two is one movie I have been waiting to hit the theatres.

Now I have finally had the chance to see it, I can say it was worth the three-year wait.

While there have been many attempts to bring Frank Herbert’s 1965 sci-fi classic to life, director Denis Villeneuve has finally done it.

Dune: Part Two is a triumphant and climatic ending to the series, which began with the release of part one in 2021.

It takes every aspect of the first film and ramps it up a notch.

The scenes in this film are something to view with awe.

Framing, editing, shot selection and CGI all combine to make every scene stunning in both look and scale.

This work all adds to the spectacle of the film.

Timothee Chalamet’s Paul Atreides has a deep conflict and a lot of the film revolves around him coming to terms with his role in Fremen society.

He is a completely different person by the end of his story.

But it is Austin Butler as the monstrous Feyd-Rautha who steals the show.

For the most part, this film doesn’t conform to the typical Hollywood formula.

The film-makers have made an effort to add more humour after complaints part one was too dry, though I have my doubts over how successful these moments of levity are.

The film takes its time to build its narrative through the two parts but the payoff is more than worth it.

If you get the chance, Dune: Part Two is definitely worth seeing but be sure to watch part one first.
