Four Square Tapanui owner James Fabian said on Thursday he was on the phone to his wife Tessa, who was in the store, when a ceiling tile fell in the supermarket.
When Mrs Fabian looked up at the ceiling, she said she could see the sky.
Yesterday, Mr Fabian said they were lucky the building’s owner, Foodstuffs South Island, had organised to have the roof repaired straight away.
The corrugated iron had peeled back and there was some water damage, but depending on what the "sparky" said, they were set to be done by lunchtime.
"As long as nobody got hurt, that’s the main thing right?" Mr Fabian said.
