Ajax 1 will look to make it eight straight women's club basketball titles when the season begins at the Edgar Centre tonight.
The defending champion has both youth and experience to call on this season and boasts several current and former Otago Gold Rush players.
Point guard Janet Main will be a key for the side running the offence and doing her share of the scoring, while Nat Smith will be big on the boards.
New Zealand age-group representatives Aleisha and Nicole Ruske will also be an important part of the offence.
Varsity A will look to kick on from its 2014 finals loss with a big season and will rely on players like versatile forward Grace Love to lead by example at both ends of the court.
Magic A, Ajax 2 and Varsity B make up the other sides in the competition this season and will be competitive, especially if Susie Bates laces up the boots for another year in the Magic squad.
A rematch of the 2014 final between Ajax and Varsity will tip off the season at 6.15pm, followed by Ajax 2 and Magic A at 7.45pm.
Varsity B has the bye.
