The financially embattled Cairns Taipans have suffered another blow after head coach Alan Black was sensationally sacked by the Australian NBL club's administrators. Taipans chief executive Denis Keeffe confirmed administrators KPMG had cut the championship-winning mentor just days after Black had agreed to take a 45% pay cut to help keep the club afloat. After the club was placed into voluntary administration a week ago, players and coaching staff agreed to take the massive pay cut in order for the club to see out the NBL season last Thursday. Imports Dave Thomas and Larry Abney were not given the choice last Thursday and were sacked. Black has now become the third victim of the Taipans' financial crisis. A release from the Taipans KPMG-appointed administrators Tony Jonsson and Gerry Mier said: "The decision is a disappointing one but necessary in the circumstances". Assistant Mark Beecroft takes over the head coach reins for the rest of the season.
