He was one of five bowlers who won their fifth centre title and Bowls Dunedin gold star in the recently ended season.
The others were Malia Tavite (Forbury Park), Lorraine Turnbull (Taieri), Anne Warrington-Blair (Outram) and Craig McCaw (Palmerston).
Watt won his first centre title in the open fours in 2008 and his fifth last season when he skipped the North East Valley team that won the champion of champions fours.
The other members of the team were Mike Cranstoun, Kelvin Budge, and Andy McLean. It was the third centre title for McLean, the fourth for Budge and the second for Cranstoun.
Watt, an apprentice engineer, first made his mark at national level in 2003 when he was a pupil at East Otago High School. He won the New Zealand secondary schools pairs title with Josh Freeman.
Four years later, he won the Hong Kong Classic singles and was a member of the New Zealand development team against Scotland.
At that time he was being tipped as a prospect to make the New Zealand Commonwealth Games team for Delhi in 2010.
He had a form lapse and went out of the picture, but still had some key performances to keep being noticed by the national selectors.
Watt played a key role when the New Zealand development team won the test series against Australia in Adelaide two years ago. He was the best player in the New Zealand development team again this year in the test series against Australia at Auckland.
Watt is a member of the seven-strong New Zealand team that will play in an international event at Glasgow later this month as a trial run for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Tavite reached her gold star when Forbury Park won the champion of champions fours. The other team members were Carloyn West, Nicky Roker and Gloria Munro. Tavite also won the open singles last season.
Warrington-Blair won her gold star in the champion of champions triples with Sue Hodges and Mary Stevenson.
Turnbull reached her gold star when she won the open pairs with Jan Barclay.
McCaw won his fifth title when he beat Mamanu Mamanu (West Harbour) 21-20 in the champion of champions singles.
McCaw and Watt were members of the Bowls Dunedin team that won the New Zealand inter-centre title.
