New Zealand wrestler Sian Law tasted defeat in her first round outing at the Commonwealth Games, going down 3-0 in one minute 55 seconds to highly-rated Nigerian Ifeoma Nwoye in a women's 51kg match.
In the first heated exchange of the contest, Law looked to have Nwoye in some bother only to find herself swiftly on her back and the umpire stopped the fight.
The loss means Law can't win a gold or silver but it is likely she will contest a repechage this afternoon and could still go on to fight for bronze.
Law is the first woman to represent New Zealand in wrestling at an Olympic or Commonwealth Games.
She was unfortunate to draw Nwoye in the first round, as the African champion is considered a strong prospect to win a medal in the nine-woman division.
