CDK’s victory nearly Holted

It was too damp at Sunnyvale but there was some Dunedin declaration cricket played at Tonga Park and Logan Park on Saturday.

Carisbrook-Dunedin/Kaikorai edged University-Grange by two wickets, while Albion and North East Valley had to settle for a draw.

The game between Green Island and Taieri at Sunnyvale was abandoned without a ball bowled. The umpires decided the surrounds of the ground were unsafe.

University-Grange 195 lost to CDK 196/8

University-Grange medium pacer Charlie Holt almost halted CDK’s march to glory with five for 18.

But Carisbrook-Dunedin/Kaikorai pair Kurt Johnston and Patrick Arnold put on an unbroken stand of 41 for the ninth wicket to squeak past the target.

Johnston made 27 not out from 42 balls and Arnold 14 from 36.

CDK was cruising at 108 for three but Holt picked up five wickets from eight overs.

Jordan Gain (35) and Xavier Chisholm (30) got the chase off to a steady start.

Vinay Chandrappa struck four fours in a knock of 39. But his side collapsed to 155 for eight before recovering to win by two wickets.

Earlier, University-Grange posted a decent tally of 195. It had slumped to 54 for five before Harrison Biggs salvaged the innings with 52.

Shiv Achary provided good support with 30, and Holt made 24 not out.

Arnold was the pick of the CDK bowlers with four for 60 from 17 overs, and Johnson’s two for 26 was good value as well. They had a good match.

Albion 147/8dec drew with NEV 136/7

Both teams gave it a red-hot crack to force a result in a rain-reduced game at Tonga Park.

The match was not able to get under way until 3pm due to wet weather and a damp outfield.

With just 60 overs left in the day, both teams played positive cricket but had to settle for a draw.

Albion batted first and got through to 147 for eight declared from 31 overs.

Kaleb McKay took six for 66 from 15 overs, but Josh Cuttance made a fighting 36 and Max Griffith (23) and Ben Blackman (20) chipped in a little.

Tommy Clout (four for 64) and Matt Bacon (three for 53) bowled 27 of the 29 overs available to North East Valley.

Valley was in early trouble at 24 for two but Will Kindley (35) and Sam Johnston (31) got the chase back on course.

Shaedon Miller thumped 18 not out from 12 at the death but Valley ran out of overs.
