Cricket: Otago sneak home over Canterbury

Otago have sneaked home with a last-ball win over Canterbury in their HRV Cup match in Dunedin tonight.

Chasing 163 for victory, Otago looked to have the game in hand while Aaron Redmond (58 off 26 balls) was blazing away, but some tight Canterbury bowling reined them in.

Ian Butler was out to the penultimate ball with two runs still required, but Mark Craig sent the only ball he faced to the boundary to secure the win by three wickets.

Captain Derek de Boorder's 32 and Ryan ten Doeschate's 30 were the other scores of note in the Otago innings of 165-7.

Earlier, in Canterbury's 162-6, opener George Worker top-scored with 58, while fellow opener Brad Cachopa made 37.

Otago's bowling effort, for the most part, was top-drawer.

Former Australian fast bowler Brett Lee took a wicket from his last ball to finish with one for 19. Spinner Nick Beard had more success in the wicket column with three for 26 and Jacob Duffy bowled beautifully at the death.

Ten Doeschate was the only Otago bowler who got taken to, with 31 runs coming off his two overs.
