Volts captain Craig Cumming completed a golden summer by winning the Otago batsman and cricketer of the year title at the association's awards evening at the University Oval last night.

The 33-year-old right hander had a season to remember in all forms of the game.

In the State Championship, Cumming scored 784 runs at an average of 65.33, including four hundreds.

He was the competition's second leading run scorer, trailing Mathew Sinclair who scored 837 runs.

Only Glenn Turner has scored more runs in a first-class season for the province, amassing 1027 in 1975-76.

Cumming dropped down the order to No 4 for the one-day tournament but continued to score runs, adding 421 at 70.16.

South African-born left arm strike bowler Neil Wagner won the bowler of the year trophy.

Wagner, who joined Otago this summer, took 21 wickets at 33.33 in first-class cricket and 24 at 17.54 in one-day cricket.

He also picked up the rising star award.

White Ferns all-rounder Sarah Tsukigawa was named batsman and player of the year for the Sparks.

Tsukigawa scored 341 runs at 37.88 and took 14 wickets at 17.35.

Emma Campbell was bowler of the year with 24 wickets at an average of 9.50.

Mike Hesson retained the coach of the year award after leading Otago to a twenty/20 title, and Aaron Redmond the Murray North trophy for an outstanding individual performance - he plundered an undefeated 100 against Central Districts.

North Otago Cricket Association chairman Peter Cameron was honoured with the outstanding contribution to cricket award.

Cameron has been on the association's board for 13 years, six as chairman, and has been "single-handedly running North Otago cricket as a volunteer", Otago Cricket Association chief executive Ross Dykes said.
