Cricket: Ronchi to debut

Dannevirke-born Luke Ronchi will make his Wellington debut in their Plunket Shield clash with Central Districts at Karori Park on Sunday.

The wicketkeeper-batsman most recently played for Western Australia in the Australian first-class domestic competition and his side just missed out on the final: "I'm excited about playing for Wellington on Sunday and look forward to the challenge of playing with my new teammates and in the new environment,'' he said.

Ronchi was pursued by Wellington when their contracted wicketkeeper Joe Austin-Smellie failed to live up to expectations this season.

Team: Grant Elliott (captain), Harry Boam, Josh Brodie, James Franklin, Scott Kuggeleijn, Luke Ronchi, Andy McKay, Stephen Murdoch, Michael Papps, Jeetan Patel, Michael Pollard, Luke Woodcock
