Cricket: Volts stumble against Canterbury

Otago have had a late morning stumble against Canterbury in their Plunket Shield match in Dunedin to be in a spot of trouble at lunch.

Chasing the Wizards' first innings total of 254, the home side have lost four wickets in the morning session to go to the break at 89 for 4.

Otago resumed at 7 without loss and openers Hamish Rutherford and Aaron Redmond progressed smoothly early on until Redmond was caught off the bowling of William Lonsdale for 15.

Seamer Ben McCord then struck twice to pick up Rutherford for 46 and Neil Broom for a duck.

Tim Johnston chipped in with the wicket of Michael Bracewell for 11 to put his side into a strong position.

Captain Derek De Boorder and Darren Broom will resume for Otago after the break.
