If you have tried to buy a ticket for day five of the test between the Black Caps and South Africa in Dunedin next month, then you would have been out of luck.
They are not for sale — yet. You can only buy tickets for the first four days of the match but not day five.
New Zealand Cricket general manager commercial James Weir said it was a move in line with other major cricket nations.
"A lot of tests don’t go to day five so what we’ve done is go to four-day ticketing and then we will review what we do at the end of day four," he said.
"For example, this season we’ve had four test matches of which two have not gone to day five and two have.
The match against Pakistan at Seddon Park went to day five and those with four-day passes were granted free admission. Day five of the test against Bangladesh at the Basin Reserve was free entry for everybody.
Weir said fans did not need to worry they may miss out on day five tickets as demand for tickets on day five was unlikely to exceed supply.
"I can’t remember any day four or five ever being sold out in New Zealand. We’ve sold the first three days out but not a day four or five."
