OCA chief executive Mike Coggan said they had a preferred candidate lined up to take over as coach of the Sparks next season.
"We are getting closer," Coggan said.
"We have a preferred candidate that we are talking to, but that might be another two weeks away before we are hoping to be in a position to confirm that person to that role."
Craig Cumming vacated the role mid-season to take up a coaching position overseas. He helped transform the one-day side into a championship team during his five-year stint.
They won the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield in 2021-22 and again in 2023-24.
They also defended their crown this season. Cumming left halfway through that campaign but played an important role in preparing the team and developing the players.
The Sparks also made two Super Smash finals (2021-22 and 2024-25) during his tenure.
Sparks assistant Shawn Hicks stood in for Cumming but was uncertain whether he would apply for the role when he spoke to the Otago Daily Times at the end of the season.
Former Volts assistant coach Ben McCord has moved back to Christchurch with his family and will pursue opportunities there.
He is with New Zealand A on their tour of Bangladesh.
McCord left towards the end of the season and former Volts Neil Broom and Shayne O’Connor stepped in to help the Volts.
But a permanent replacement is sought and Coggan hopes that person will be in place shortly as well.
"We can’t afford not to have those key positions in place through the winter," Coggan said.
"Preseason starts in September, but the players like to start to do some work prior to that."
The OCA has clearance to erect a temporary marquee at Tonga Park again this season. But it hopes to make an announcement around a permanent venue for its indoor training facility soon.
