North East Valley 111 beat Taieri by 35 runs

It was a low-scoring game at Bishopscourt as North East Valley managed to successfully defend 111 against Taieri.

Wickets fell regularly for North East Valley when it batted first and Corey Perrett top-scored with an unbeaten 27. It lasted into the 32nd over, Regan Flaws grabbing a five-wicket bag.

In reply, Taieri never got any partnerships going and was all out for 76 in the 25th over.

Not one player from Taieri made it to 20 as it lost wickets at regular intervals.

Right-arm medium-fast bowler Matt Spicer picked up six wickets as Taieri folded, failing to get anything going with the bat on what was a greenish wicket.

Will Kindley took four catches behind the wicket as North East Valley kept the pressure on.

The competition will move to the twenty20 format next week.

Green Island 231 for nine lost to Carisbrook-Dunedin/Kaikorai 232 for eight by two wickets

In the 10th over at Sunnyvale, it seemed to be all over for the home side.

Green Island batted first and was 22 for six at the start of the 10th over.

Kurt Johnston and Richard Sillars had combined for Carisbrook-Dunedin/Kaikorai to destroy the Green Island top and middle order and the game appeared headed for an early finish.

But wicketkeeper Nick Parata came to the wicket and combined with Joel Meade to put together a 178 run partnership. The pair were not separated until the 46th over. Meade hit 102 before being run out, while Parata was dismissed for 71. Meade hit 60 runs in boundaries and kept the score moving along. Only one other Green Island player made double figures.

Sillars picked up a five-wicket bag.

In reply the combined side got off to a good start, with all the top order getting runs. Cam Hawkins scored 55 and Jack Pryde and Max Chu made contributions. At 176 for three wickets the visiting team was well placed, but hit a few speed wobbles on the way home. It needed three runs off the last over and Blair Soper had Liam Ryan caught behind off the first ball.

But Patrick Arnold hit a three off the first ball he faced to win the game.

University Grange 135 lost to Albion 139 for no wicket by 10 wickets

Albion was untroubled to beat University Grange at Memorial Park on Saturday, putting together a convincing 10 wicket victory.

Schoolboy Jacob Cumming fought a lone hand for the University Grange team and was last man out after opening the batting.

Cumming ended up with 68 and scored just over half his side’s runs.

He got little support from anyone else, although Stephen Markham managed to get through to 31.

Tommy Clout grabbed four wickets as did Ben Blackman as University Grange was dismissed in the 34th over.

In reply, Albion simply went on the front foot and scored the winning run in the 14th over.

Captain Jamie Glenn scored an unbeaten 76 while Max O’Dowd got through to 53. Glenn hit 66 runs in boundaries while O’Dowd hit 46 runs in boundaries as the match was over early.
