The Dunedin woman was recently appointed to the Fifa women’s football stakeholders committee, responsible for advising and assisting the Fifa council on the global strategic development of women’s football.
Barron, who is currently in Doha, is the only New Zealand delegate on the committee and has been appointed for four years.
She joins nine other members — including a Fifa council delegate — from France, Australia, Spain, Argentina, Mexico, Finland, Ukraine and chairwoman and United States great Mia Hamm.
"I am delighted and very humbled to have been appointed to this committee and will have the opportunity to work with some amazing women and men," Barron said.
"I am sure I will learn a great deal from them."
Barron has a long association in sports management and governance.
She served as the manager of the Southern Sting, the New Zealand under-21 team at two Netball World Youth Cups and was the manager of the Silver Ferns from 2005 to 2009.
She also served as the manager for the Black Ferns during the 2000s, including their 2002 Rugby World Cup victory.
In 2013 she was appointed to the Sport New Zealand board, serving two terms, and was appointed to a panel to review the culture of New Zealand Rugby in 2016.
Barron, who is currently the principal of St Hilda’s Collegiate but will step down at the end of term one next year after 11 years, has been on the New Zealand Football board since 2019.
She was made a member of the order of merit on 2017 for her services to sports governance and education.
