More balance to Southern's schedule

Southern United will begin its National Football Premiership season with two South Island derbies.

The team hosts Tasman United in its national football premiership opener on November 2, followed by a trip to play Canterbury United a week later in Christchurch.

The schedule is far more balanced than last year when Southern United played six of its first seven games away from home.

This time around it will not have to play more than two games in a row on the road.

However, it does have a period after the Christmas break in which it will play four away games over a five-week stretch.

The side will play eight of its home games at the new Logan Park Turf.

It will also play at Forsyth Barr Stadium against Hamilton Wanderers on November 23.

Fans will also be able to tune in to the away games on January 18 and 25.

Both games - against the Wellington Phoenix Reserves and Tasman United - will be televised on Sky Sport.

The league's semfinals are scheduled for April 11-12, while the final is set for April 19.
