Golf: Kim top qualifier in schools championships

Terry Kim played solidly in gusting winds at Chisholm Links yesterday to qualify in top position in the Otago schools championships.

Kim (Queenstown) shot a 4-over 75 in the morning to hold a two-shot lead at lunch and 76 in the afternoon to clinch top spot.

He finished two shots ahead of Connor Ross (St Clair) who played at No 8 in the men's team in the South Island interprovincial at Westport last month.

Ross shot 77 and 76 while Scott Clark (Lower Waitaki) came in third a further shot back and one ahead of Harry Smith (Otago).

Abigael Crawford was the lowest-scoring female player, showing solid form after competing at No 2 for Otago in the women's national interprovincial in Ashburton last week.

The event continues today and tomorrow with the top 16 qualifiers competing in matchplay to decide the top junior golfer for 2015.
