A tense contest between Chisholm Park and Otago Gold finished in a 3-3 tie on Saturday.

The result - both teams got a single point - widens the gap between the teams and leader Otago Blue and the second-placed St Clair sextet.

Two of the matches finished on the final green and so either the Park or Otago Gold players were eyeing a win.

Park's Mark Collie beat masters (over-40) representative John McIntee in the battle between the No 1 golfers.

Collie was three down with six holes to play but had a golden run and when he won the 17th hole was one up with one hole to play.

McIntee drove on to the green at the last and Collie had to sink a three-metre birdie putt to take the honours and secure the half for his team.

The other close game was between the No 3 players. Park's Sean Geary and Balmacewen's Chris Timms were square after 17 holes.

Timms drove on to the final green making a birdie 3 to win the match.

For Chisholm Park, Kyle Geary and Antony McCullough posted wins while Otago's Harry Smith and Cam Ryder evened the score, beating Josh Finnie and Peter Rae respectively.

It was one way traffic at Balmacewen, where Otago Blue lived up to its unofficial team name as the Balmacewen Bombers.

It won all six games against Taieri to have a maximum of 15 points and an impressive game tally of 25 out of a possible 30.

At No 1, Nick Borren was solid with 15 pars and two birdies, beating Roy McLean with two holes to spare.

At No 3, Brandon Hodgson trailed by one after 13 holes but finished strongly, beating Brett Kennelly on the 17th green.

It was a notable win for Tony Ruddenklau at No 6 as he is not one of the team's frontline players. He has been called in when leading players had other commitments and posted his first win over Ian Boath on Saturday.
