Golf: Otago Blue whitewashes Chisholm

Otago Blue showed top form to win all six games against Chisholm Links in the men's Senior A pennant semifinal on the Balmacewen course yesterday.

A depleted Otago Blue sextet will now play St Clair at St Clair next Saturday to decide the winner of this year's pennant series.

But St Clair looks to be in the box seat, with four of the top Otago Blue golfers unavailable. Jason Hughes is getting married in Bali in a ceremony booked more than a year ago, and Nick Borren, Brandon Hodgson and Daniel Elder are on the guest list.

Michael (Moxy) Smith will also attend the wedding but will not leave Dunedin until after the final and will join an in-form Ben Patston, Tyrone Ratahi and Luke Murdoch in the final.

This leaves the team two players short and the club cannot use players who have represented its Gold or B team during the season.

Otago Blue can bring seasoned university golfers Jason Yoo and Sean Masters into the sextet but their availability is not yet known.

Yoo has represented Canterbury in a five-man team while Masters was in the Otago Toro team which made the semifinals at North Shore in 2013.

Yesterday, Borren beat Kyle Geary with two holes to spare while Blues' captain Brandon Hodgson posted a 5 and 4 win over Sean Geary.

At No3, Ben Patston continued his recent winning form, beating Cody McMullan by 3 and 2.

At No5 Michael Smith had a comfortable win at the expense of Brent Butler while the remaining two matches finished on the final green.

With the Glen out of play due to frost, Daniel Elder (No4) went on to the final substitute hole, Crossways, one ahead of Mark Collie, taking the match when both players made bogey4s.

At No6, Tyrone Ratahi won the final hole to record a two-up win over Chisholm Links Matthew Heaton.
